Profile bio

About Torsten Louland

I build and bring structure that leaves you satisfied, ranging from analysis and studies, through to realisation of your value propositions for users of iOS and macOS.My journey here starts with half Danish heritage and English upbringing. A degree in electronics and three years hardware engineering preceded a switch in 1987 to the enticing new world of Mac software development, which has been a mainstay ever since, with occasional cross-platform development. In 2007 I added four years as a requirements analyst for two teams, and then in 2011 I pivoted to iOS and started Satisfying Structures, marketing my own product in 2013. In the last five years through collaboration with the Open Bank Project, I have added a focus on APIs, platform strategy, developer experience, and related consultancy. My recreational interests include arts and graphics, with several design & print projects to show, and music, at one time regularly murdering jazz and soul classics with nine musical co-conspirators to drunken audiences. The move to the user-responsive model of software accelerated by the Mac in the 80’s captivated me, and I quickly became an advocate of best user experience - twenty years before UX was a buzzword - and adopted from the work of Tom Gilb, one of the catalysts of nascent agile, a focus on quality attributes and targets to guide development. Since 2010, this has been nuanced for the needs of mobile and the realities of an attention-scarce world: frictionless (instant learnability and discoverable affordance, attention-lean, mitigating inattentional blindness), engaging (rapidly net-rewarding of attention, adhesive, (for B2C:) innately viral reputation), brand (strong representation, enhancing reputation), (for B2B:)enabling capability and execution, tailored appeal per cohort. As a client of Satisfying Structures BV, you can expect analysis and development backed by broad experience not just of three decades of development but also by a strong grip of user psychology, brand, marketing, sales, multi-stakeholder matrices, business capability and strategy, and all this applied to understanding your needs and tailoring an appropriate solution that satisfies. Here is a demo video I made in 2013 for my iPhone app Spendigo (http://youtu.be/0G4IlA4ulu0) — an amusingly naïve attempt at marketing before I studied it properly and gained deeper insight into its interplay with sales and psychology.

Listed skills include Mobile Applications, Software Development, Cocoa, C++, and 13 others.
