Captain Wright began his career with the St. Petersburg Police Department in 1998 as a Civilian Report Writer. He obtained his sworn status in 2000 upon graduating from the Southeastern Public Safety Institute (SEPSI). His service with the St. Petersburg Police Department included assignments to Uniform Patrol and Community Policing. In 2002, Captain Wright accepted employment with the Orange County Sheriff's Office in Orlando, Florida as a Deputy Sheriff. He served in various capacities within the Uniform Patrol Division (UPD) and the Special Investigations Division where he worked as an undercover Narcotics Agent. Additionally, throughout his tenure with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Captain Wright has served in several specialty assignments to include; Field Training, Emergency Response Team, and Honor Guard Team. When promoted to Corporal in 2012, Captain Wright served in UPD as well as the Criminal Investigations Division- Night Investigations Unit. After his promotion to Sergeant, he again served in the UPD and was later again assigned to the Night Investigations Unit specializing in violent persons crimes. In 2016, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Night Watch Command. He was subsequently assigned to the Special Operations Division- Aviation Section where he was responsible for the day to day operations of the agency’s fleet of aircraft. He was later assigned to the Human Resources Division where he oversaw the Career Development Unit, as well as the Personnel Services Unit to include Off-Duty Services. As a part of his assignment to the Human Resources Division, Captain Wright also served as one of the agency’s two Labor Relations Managers.Currently, Captain Wright serves as the commander of the Community Relations Section which includes the Crime Prevention and Community Relations Units. He also serves as a member of the Orange County Sheriff's Office Legislative Affairs and Casualty Assistance Teams. Academic accomplishments for Captain Wright include an Associate of Arts from St. Petersburg College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice Administration, and Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia College. He is also a graduate of The Southern Police Institute’s 72nd Command Officer Development Course. Captain Wright remains committed to fostering collaborative relationships while ensuring the safety of our community.
