Process Improvement Engineering Intern

Alberta, Canada

During my time with Dow Chemical ULC I gained significant experience in the Hydrocarbons plant and become an integral part of the Improvement and Production Team. I gained knowledge and experience in project management, funding authorization, managing and controlling costs for my projects, and methods for separation of butane and propane from NGLs with the luxury of being able to visualize these equipment in plant. Some of my specific projects are listed below:-Accountable to request and manage funding (>$700,000 USD) for multiple projects and for purchasing equipment-Decreased spending on chemical storage units through reduction of excess totes/drums & placing certain chemicals on “order as required basis”. Optimization presented $110M USD in savings -Involved with process safety projects throughout the hydrocarbon plant, to ensure compliance with company’s internal loss prevention (LPP) requirements. In addition, identified EH&S motivated projects as part of completing LPP’s -Executed & managed numerous improvement projects, from scope development and design phase to commissioning. Ensured that documentation and procedures were up to date before closing the project. (examples: caustic pump installation, venturi steam trap, caustic vessel replacement, guided wave level transmitters, rerouting caustic piping) -Established a database for the underground hydrocarbon lines in plant and document underground line inspections for each one of these lines, to facilitate future audits and maintain line integrity -Developed LOPA process safety training for operators. The training illustrated safeguards and safety instrument systems in place to prevent catastrophic events from occurring due to undesired abnormality in the process unit -Prepared flowsheets using Aspen graphics to allow personnel on site with access to real time readings of process instruments, for better decision making & for compatibility with ABB migration
