I entered the field of Physical Therapy to better understand and become proficient with the healing process and to assist people in returning to their desired lifestyles. Over the years I became interested in how technology is able to assist the clinician and business operation provide improved healthcare services. These improvements may come in many forms: streamlined clinical documentation to allow the provider more hands-on time with the patient; improved network security allowing for information to be accessed compliantly; or process improvement to lower business expenses and allow revenue to be placed back into the company for equipment, tenant improvements or bonuses. It is very gratifying to see improved health care experiences secondary to the advanced use of technology. Blending my knowledge of Physical Therapy and outpatient rehabilitation with Health Information Technology allows me to improve both clinical and operational aspects of the healthcare business. Whether the topic is HIPAA compliance, business intelligence, customization, security or productivity, information technology has the ability to improve the process and performance of rehabilitation agencies. Technology is ever-changing and advancing, much the same way our businesses are. My skills lie in understanding the technological possibilities and strategically embedding the solutions into the business operation while being cognizant of cost, scope and the short and long-term business objectives. Furthermore, compliance and protection of health information are paramount in today’s health care environment. Technology plays a pivotal role in these requirements and I am focused on ensuring that both the patient and rehabilitation business benefit in its proper implementation.
