Ultro International is a wholesale in the sign industry, providing the retail market a portfolio of both international imported and custom built products and services.
In 2010 Damen extended their vessel portfolio by a catamaran specialised for maintenance tasks in the offshore wind market. On the bow of this catamaran a soft bumper (fender) is fitted which protects the vessel and windmill during impacts and provides friction to keep the vessel in position against the turbine. Damen strives to increase the boundaries of this fender because customers need to have higher operability in rougher seas with less downtime. For my graduation thesis I developed a time domain simulation which provides an expected operability based on fender specification. This simulation is partly validated with results of towing tank model.
One of Keppel Verolme his main business tasks is life extension of offshore floaters. The market now starts asking for extension programs providing a lower carbon footprint. The research department is looking into potential savings, costs and payback times of offshore application of energy saving and -harvesting techniques which are already proven in on-shore buildings. I developed a thermodynamic simulation tool to provide more realistic potential savings and costs.
Worldwide Allseas provides offshore pipelay and subsea construction with six specialised in-house designed vessels. As a fulltime work student, I assisted the team responsible for the fender design of stinger transportation barge for their newest vessel, Pioneering Spirit. Besides strength calculations, I did some project planning and communication with suppliers.
