I have over ten years' experience in strategic communications, in particular developing and executing communication plans and campaigns for the Western Cape Government from 2010 to 2019. This included developing and implementing paid communications campaigns (in conjunction with advertising agencies), identifying media opportunities and managing media risks and crises. I also have extensive experience in writing and editing press releases, opinion pieces, speeches and creating social media and other digital content. For the last four years, I have been providing strategic communications advice and support to an array of clients in the private sector.

    I was employed in the Delivery Support Unit in the Department of the Premier, which is responsible for overseeing the implementation of seven priority interventions called Game Changers over a five year term. The Game Changers focused on either leveraging the best opportunities or tackling some of the province's greatest challenges with the aim of contributing towards economic growth, job creation and social inclusion. The Game Changers were: Expanding Vocational Skills and Training; Achieving Energy Security; Delivering High Speed Broadband; Implementing quality e-Learning at schools; Expanding quality After School activities; Pioneering a major “live, work and play” development called the Better Living Model that integrates communities and finally, Reducing Alcohol Related Harms in the province. I was responsible for developing and overseeing the execution of the communication strategies for all the Game Changers in conjunction with provincial government departments and its advertising agency. This included developing and executing paid communication campaigns, identifying free media opportunities and managing media risks related to the Game Changers.
