I was employed in the Delivery Support Unit in the Department of the Premier, which is responsible for overseeing the implementation of seven priority interventions called Game Changers over a five year term. The Game Changers focused on either leveraging the best opportunities or tackling some of the province's greatest challenges with the aim of contributing towards economic growth, job creation and social inclusion. The Game Changers were: Expanding Vocational Skills and Training; Achieving Energy Security; Delivering High Speed Broadband; Implementing quality e-Learning at schools; Expanding quality After School activities; Pioneering a major “live, work and play” development called the Better Living Model that integrates communities and finally, Reducing Alcohol Related Harms in the province. I was responsible for developing and overseeing the execution of the communication strategies for all the Game Changers in conjunction with provincial government departments and its advertising agency. This included developing and executing paid communication campaigns, identifying free media opportunities and managing media risks related to the Game Changers.

I was responsible for working with the DA Gauteng leadership in order to maximise media coverage of the DA’s activities in the province.This involved working closely with DA public representatives and managing the provincial media team in order to identify media opportunities and develop communications content to communicate the party's message to voters.

I was responsible for executing and managing the communications strategy for the Western Cape Government. This involved developing both free media and paid for communications strategies in conjunction with the provincial communications teams, drafting communications content, identifying and mitigating media risks, managing all crisis communication and overseeing a media monitoring and analysis team. I was also required to write speeches for the Western Cape Premier.

I advised the Western Cape Premier on all media related issues including identifying media opportunities and managing risks to both the Premier and the Western Cape Government’s reputation.I was responsible for providing research and speech writing assistance to the Premier.

I was responsible for managing and promoting the public profile of Western Cape Premier Helen Zille and serving as a liaison between her and the media. This involved developing a media strategy for the Premier, which included arranging press conferences, drafting media releases and speeches and compiling responses to media enquiries.

I was employed on a part-time basis in the Leader’s office of the Democratic Alliance to write the party leader’s speeches and weekly newsletter.

I was required to provide effective leadership and management of former Parliamentary Leader Athol Trollip’s Office. I was responsible for developing a strategic programme of action for the Parliamentary Leader in and outside of Parliament. This included providing political advice, speech writing, research assistance as well as media and communications support.

I was responsible for drafting parliamentary questions, motions and members’ statements for the Chief Whip, Deputy Chief Whip and the DA parliamentary caucus as a whole. My job involved writing press releases and speeches producing research documents on issues relating to the business of Parliament and accompanying the Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip to parliamentary committee meetings. I developed extensive knowledge and understanding of parliamentary processes and rules in this role.

I was responsible for attending portfolio committee meetings in Parliament and producing detailed minutes of these meetings, which were uploaded onto the Parliamentary Monitoring Group’s website for members of the public to access.
