GIO Australia is an insurer, and provided workers compensation insurance to a number of businesses within Adelaide during this period. My primary role was to manage a team responsible for the management of workers compensation claims, and to maintain and expand the customer base of the business. This included such responsibilities as interpretation and application of - complex legal legislation and attending legal hearings as GIO's representative- liaising with new and existing customers on a regular basis; - managing staff and work levels- strategic planning

I joined Workcover as a Claims Officer, and was promoted to the position of Case Manager within a short period of time. The role predominantly involved making determinations of worker's entitlements in accordance with the legislation. In 1993 the department established a self managed unit which allowed larger organisations to manage their own workers compensation claims. I was recruited to this team and later became Team Leader.
