Exeter's Underground Passages are a unique scheduled historic monument whose origins began in the fourteenth century. Run by Exeter City Council, they offer a fabulous insight into medieval Exeter. You just never know what's below your feet!As a tour guide I presented the history of the Passages to visitors, telling their story with energy and enthusiasm.As part of the position, I researched Exeter's history so that I could be confident with answering questions from interested… Show more Exeter's Underground Passages are a unique scheduled historic monument whose origins began in the fourteenth century. Run by Exeter City Council, they offer a fabulous insight into medieval Exeter. You just never know what's below your feet!As a tour guide I presented the history of the Passages to visitors, telling their story with energy and enthusiasm.As part of the position, I researched Exeter's history so that I could be confident with answering questions from interested people, and could encourage visitors to visit other historic attractions in the city. I also took part in planning special events, using my theatrical prop making skills to decorate the Halloween event, and my art workshop experience to demonstrate and facilitate crafting activities.We were responsible for the health and safety of visitors both in the centre and in the Passages - a very confined space. We were supplied with safety equipment and used a radio system to communicate with the centre whilst underground. We were also responsible for taking bookings and handling cash through ticket and shop sales, recording visitor numbers and the smooth running of all areas of the heritage Show less
