The Dyslexia Resource Center, formerly known as Tutor Eau Claire, became an independent 501(c)(3) organization in 2020. Originally established in 1999 to serve struggling readers in the Eau Claire Community of Columbia, SC, the present name, Dyslexia Resource Center, reflects our current, expanded mission. The Dyslexia Resource Center's primary mission is to raise awareness of dyslexia the leading cause of reading failure, provide accessible and affordable direct service to struggling readers in the Midlands, and to train teachers in evidence-based reading instruction. Mrs. Ely served as director from 1999 to 2020, The new director is Jennifer Neese. Please visit our website www.dyslexiasc.org, Mrs. Ely's Accomplishments:- Certified Orton-Gillingham practitioner - Tutor Trainer, Rolling Reader of the Midlands, 2000 to 2011- Awarded $200,000 in grants over 15 years as Principal Grant Writer- Developed, coordinated, conducted and trained tutors for: • Summer Wilson Reading Tutorials 2003 – 2005. • TutorEC Reading Tutorials at EE Taylor ES ‘05-‘06, ‘06-‘07, and Fall ‘07. • TutorEC Reading Tutorial at Clubhouse Afterschool Program, ‘08-09, ‘09-2010 • Turning Pages Together Family Literacy Project at Clubhouse, 2009-2010 • TutorEC Reading Tutorial at Hyatt Park Afterschool Program, 2010-2013 • Summer Surge Reading and Math Camp, 2011-2013- Obtained Site License for Barton Reading System tutor training for TutorEC- Obtained Site License for Lexia Reading Core 5 web-based reading tutorial- Grant partner with Girls Scouts of South Carolina- Mountains to Midlands, 2013-2021.
