I have had various roles working with children and families for the last 26 years or so and now more recently with families with children under 3 years in the perinatal period. The role was created by the local CCG's for Blackpool Wyre and Fylde to support Infant Mental Health.Previous roles have included a children and young persons caseworker for Victim Services for children from 5-18 who have been victims of crime. The role has developed from working just 1:1 with a young person to include the family by running workshops which show the impact of the trauma on the whole of the family. For 10 years I worked for Lancashire County Council as the co-ordinator for the Children’s Centre started at Thornton. I was responsible for the budgets, reporting to the governing body, planning, resourcing and delivering groups and activities. The centre worked closely with various agencies to improve the emotional health and wellbeing of the children who were at particular risk and vulnerable. I was increasingly finding myself supporting parents as well as staff on emotional issues, so I decided to re-train as a counsellor and juggled holding down a full time job as well as finding time for placements and study. I qualified as a counsellor in 2017.
