Hi, I’m Tracey McPhee, Deputy Mayor of Bundaberg and a proud advocate for our vibrant region. Born and bred in Bundaberg, I’ve always felt a deep connection to this community. Over the past five years as a Councillor—and now as Deputy Mayor—I’ve worked tirelessly to create meaningful change while staying true to the values of honesty, hard work, and community spirit.Growing up as the daughter of a young, single mum, I learned early on the importance of resilience and community support. This shaped my lifelong commitment to helping others, particularly young people and those in need.Before stepping into public service, I built a career as a small business owner. My husband Michael and I own Alowishus Delicious, an award-winning café that has grown to three locations. Together with our children, Ally and Gabriel, we’ve lived in Bundaberg all our lives. While our business has been recognised with awards like the Chamber of Commerce ‘Business of the Year’ and the Australia Day ‘Community Spirit Award,’ it’s the impact on our community and team that we value most.My business journey taught me the importance of small businesses as drivers of job creation and community service. Through initiatives like mentoring programs, employment pathways, and campaigns like #lovebundy, I’ve worked to empower young people, promote local spending, and reduce youth unemployment.I’m inspired by my late father, Steve Ward, a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow recognised for his dedication to community service. His legacy motivates me to volunteer, mentor, and serve on local committees, giving back to the community that has given so much to me.As a Councillor and Deputy Mayor, my focus is on creating a livable and vibrant community. One that is an amazing place to live, work and play. My approach is grounded in honesty—I don’t make promises I can’t keep, but I do work relentlessly to deliver meaningful outcomes. While Council work can be challenging, I believe in the power of small actions to create big change. My goal is simple: to make Bundaberg the best it can be for everyone who calls it home.Every day I’m reminded of what an honour it is to serve the community that raised me. Bundaberg is a complex and dynamic community, and while being a Councillor can be very demanding it’s incredibly rewarding. I’m just an everyday person striving to make Bundaberg a better place—a place where everyone feels supported and valued. Let’s connect and work together to build a brighter future for Bundaberg!
