My current position as a GPA is mainly to support the Doctors in the smooth running of the surgery by sorting routine administration together with training for some basic clinical duties such as blood pressure checks, ECG’s, and Phlebotomy. My role also includes recording data and readings for the care homes in our area, the intermediary between the home and our surgery via Telehealth. The blood pressure readings from the Patient Pod and monitoring the recalls and scheduled tasks regarding BPs in general, arranging for the patient to attend the surgery for rechecks or requesting a week’s worth of readings, averaging them out and recording them onto their records. Raising blood test forms and then checking bloods off as they come in and actioning them accordingly. All the various forms are put in my tray for me to run past the relevant Doctor after I have gathered any information first as well as OOA patients and general clinical decisions. I also filter out the workflow regarding the relevant practitioners such as Mental Health, Pharmacy and Safeguarding. I have also assisted our Care co-ordinator in home visits for assessments, bereavement, and any other relevant issues to do with the safety and wellbeing of the patient.

Newport Health Centre covers two sites and this role was at the Carisbrooke site. This was still operating System One. This included scanning onto patient’s notes and forwarding to the appropriate department for coding if this had not already been done. I was also involved with some parts of Data including Breast Screening and A & Es/Ambulance, I covered all aspects of administration including the registration of new patients, from nursing homes to patients wishing to change surgery, out of area letters, change of names and addresses. In this rapidly changing environment, I was able to adjust accordingly and efficiently. I also entered the lifestyle data including BPs, GAD and PHQ scores for patients. November 2020 – July 2021 – Patient Advisor – Newport Health CentreNewport Health Centre provides an extensive service to Patients across the Newport area and beyond, using System One. My role as a Patient Advisor covered many aspects such as answering queries, making appointments, troubleshooting amongst a whole host of other duties as each day is never the same and the industry changes especially during this uncertain time. Patients have become insecure during the pandemic and sometimes just needed a friendly voice at the end of the telephone to talk to. I also covered reception, which was also very fast paced, printing forms and pots for tests.My role also included e-Consults, this I found very rewarding and interesting as each enquiry was very diverse, this entailed passing each request/query to the appropriate clinician or department. Alternatively, I often took the initiative to find a solution to the said problem be it making an appointment or tasking the GPs. I was also able to book Covid jabs on the Accurx system and then the recording of the jabs on PharmasOutcome, I was involved in this process from day 1.

This Isle of Wight based firm catered in the fast-paced world of Personal Protection Insurance (PPI) that had been mis-sold by banks to consumers. My role as a Senior Claims Investigator was to investigate the methods that the banks used when mis-selling insurances to my clients, of which I had over 400 in busy times. There was a heavy workload and prioritisation was key to successfully supporting the needs of my clients. I have a good telephone manner and I excel in customer relations, which was a large percentage of my job. The delicate nature of dealing with deceased clients and divorce situations required diplomacy and respect. The banks are a challenge to deal with but when the result is a positive one for my clients, it made my job more rewarding.
