About Tracie Lee

Areas of focus: supply chain, process management, project management, transfer of training, statistics, Excel, assessment of learning, GenAI in education, active learning.For Boise State's College of Business and Economics, I teach a variety of courses in statistics/analytics and supply chain at the undergrad level and for our Career Track MBA program. I'm also our Course Coordinator for the supply chain intro course, and am honored to serve as the Faculty Advisor for the Women in Business student organization.I also wear multiple hats for McGraw-Hill Education, serving as editor of OM in the News, a faculty-run blog (ominthenews.com), and as a Subject Matter Expert and Digital Faculty Consultant in Operations Management, Business Statistics, and Project Management. Recent projects: webinars on using digital platforms to increase student engagement, a series of Excel how-to videos available to students and faculty in the statistics and operations/supply chain textbooks. Prior to joining Boise State, I taught OM for 8 years at the University of Idaho, helped develop and teach their revised intro to business course, served as the faculty liaison for Service Learning and the faculty advisor to the student chapter of APICS, and developed and taught a USAC course in Torino, Italy.At U of I, I also served as a lead on a cross-disciplinary research team, funded by the USDA, to explore options for processing and distributing locally-raised livestock. We hosted meetings/workshops in several Idaho counties, conducted surveys of livestock producers, interviewed meat processors and their employees, and helped local livestock producers develop a working group to move forward with the results. From 1997 - 2007, I held various supply chain management, project and program management roles at Hewlett-Packard Company in Boise, Idaho. Various jobs prior to that included a year as Communications Coordinator for a division of an aerospace company in Arizona, and 3 years as Operations Coordinator at a telecom in Florida.

    I teach Business Statistics/Analytics and Supply Chain Mgmt, online and in-person, undergrad and for our Career Track MBA. I prefer active learning formats, teaching either fully flipped or short chunks of lecture with hands-on activities and simulations. Also in Fall 2018, we launched BusMgt368 for the Management department's Online Degree Completion program. This major cross-functional design project took most of the preceding 6 months, complies with all accessibility requirements, has passed a Quality Matters review, and applies best practices in pedagogy. It also earns strongly positive student reviews! All my undergraduate courses, f2f or online, use short lecture videos with embedded quiz questions (using Camtasia to record and build questions, a video hosting platform like Panopto, and deeplinked videos to the LMS gradebook) to enable flipped classes.On YouTube, I've loaded how-to stats videos under the username QuantQuill, with tips on using Excel, the normal distribution table, and various graphing calculators.

    As a full-time, non-tenured faculty member in the Operations Management area, my main responsibilities were teaching, advising, mentoring, and service. I advised 30-40 undergraduate majors each semester, mentored a dozen student teams every semester, and served as the faculty advisor to the UI Student Chapter of APICS (UISC-APICS). Committees on which I served include the College of Business and Economics Assessment Committee (to evaluate Assurance of Learning), the CBE Curriculum Committee, and the CBE Goal 3 (Outreach and Engagement) Committee. In Summer 2011, I developed and taught a 3-credit, 5-week course in Torino, Italy, called Managing International Projects and Processes. It was offered through the University Study Abroad Consortium (USAC), and was taught in English to students from American universities.

    By 2005, HP's North American offices received over a million invoices each year, the majority of which were paper invoices. As North America Program Manager, I was responsible for educating and transitioning suppliers to HP offices in the US and Canada to an electronic invoicing platform. Our e-Invoicing team developed and delivered online and in-person workshops to suppliers and employees, maintained an internal and external website which included processes, procedures, and FAQs, and solicited and acted upon feedback from suppliers and employees for program improvements. I took a lead role in re-negotiating a multi-year contract with our e-invoicing partner in 2006.
