At Homeward Trust, I support the Data and Analytics team and senior leadership by planning, executing, and reporting on various projects that address the challenges and dynamics of the homelessness serving sector. These projects are particularly critical as they intersect with the ongoing recovery efforts from the COVID-19 pandemic and the escalating needs of the community.This role allows me to bring my expertise in strategic thinking, data analysis, and project management to make significant contributions towards addressing homelessness, with the ultimate goal of enhancing service delivery and community well-being.Key Responsibilities:Project Leadership: Preplanning the 2024 Point in Time homeless census, integrating lessons learned from past iterations and current trends to enhance accuracy and relevance.Research and Analysis: Lead a major federally funded research initiative aimed at innovating community-based action research with a budget exceeding $1 million, ensuring meticulous attention to the design, execution, and reporting stages. I also dive deep into administrative data sets to surface insights and data stories that are relevant to continuous quality improvement, program innovation, and strategic decision making.Strategic Advisory: Reinvigorated and currently chairing the Homeward Trust Research Committee, aiming to set strategic research priorities to frame an annual research budget, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and community-based research.Survey Coordination: Oversee the design and implementation of surveys, involving comprehensive stakeholder engagement to optimize data collection and analysis.Innovative Contributions: Co-developed an AI-driven literature review to synthesize five years of research on homelessness in Edmonton, demonstrating a commitment to leveraging technology for enhanced insight and strategy development.

When I was first hired at the Boyle McCauley Health Centre, I was contracted to improve in-house data collection in support of a province-wide research project, created to shed light on a program for homeless adults. By the end of that contract, I was asked to stay on full time. Since then, I helped the health centre make more sense of their data and organize student and academic research projects. For 8 years, I led the health centre staff to explore and clearly explain, to themselves and others, about the amazing complexity of the work they do. Together, with managers and staff, we discovered many new ways to analyze, describe, re-think, and improve their work to help vulnerable people get housing and to work on their mental and physical health.

Pathways to Housing Edmonton

Responsible for coordinating the recruitment of schools from all over the province of Alberta, as well as the supervision of data collection from student bodies from participating schools during the 2010/2011 cycle of the Youth Smoking Survey. Successfully recruited 34 schools and 2 district boards. Coordinated and implemented permission protocols and data collections within 27 schools ranging from 100 to 1700 student surveys per school, elementary through high school.

TA for Communication Research Methods: Responsible for facilitating graduate level discussions, aiding in the coordination of presentations, and for consulting on graduate research projects.

Community University Partnership for the Study of Children, Youth, and Families: Responsible for the recruitment and retention of over 550 low income families into the project as well as coordinating the collection of data, maintaining and tracking personal information of participants, training and consultation of data management in HOMES database, extraction and analysis of raw data, literature reviews, fidelity analysis, content analysis, writing up results and reports, support of award applications.

Advocated for clients, helping them learn and navigate systems, intervening when appropriate, to governmental and non-governmental agencies, the criminal justice system, and employers. Coordinated client services, creating action plans, assisting clients’ needs, and monitoring outcomes. Referred clients to appropriate services in a way that enhanced the capacity of the client to utilize such services independently in the future.
