Over the last thirty years I've worked with several hundred hospital board members and healthcare executives. They all face ongoing and evolving industry challenges- reimbursement, regulation, compliance, quality of care, patient experience, billing transparency, workforce shortages, managed care, pandemics, DEI. The list is endless. One constant is the need for efficient and effective board processes. Think bylaws, job descriptions, committee charters, board evaluation, policies, succession planning, new member orientation, CEO evaluation and compensation. This work is time consuming. Once these foundational pieces are in place, board and executive leadership can focus their attention on the complex set of issues requiring deliberation, debate and optional decision-making to ensure continued access to services. Through years of exposure gained from participation in nearly 1000 board committee meetings and board events, and frequent interaction with board members and hospital leaders, I've become a highly respected expert in all matters relating to governance and board relations. I excel at developing and maintaining trusting relationships and fostering the respect of others because I listen to leadership challenges and respond with strategic action and advice. And I've been a rural hospital executive; I've lived in the same whirlwind.I know the importance of healthcare in a community, particularly a rural one. It drives economic development - jobs, housing, daycare, schools, retail. I've advocated for and supported hospitals for over 30 years and it's in my blood. I've seen them make a difference. The board development work I've done has resulted in more efficient and focused meetings, increased board member engagement, and enhanced decision-making processes to improve the likelihood of organizational sustainability.
