I am passionate about advancing the awareness of Neurofibromatosis. This disorder is largely unheard of, yet not uncommon. It affects 1 in 3000 births world wide, which is one of the highest neurological genetic disorders. Since learning my son (now 13 years old) was afflicted with NF I have been actively involved with contributing to this cause. Our family and support group have received Appreciation Awards from the Children's Tumour Foundation in the US, the Rehabilitation Centre for Children and the Ronald McDonald House in Winnipeg. Our family has been acknowledged with the Manitoba Lotteries Family Volunteer Award and the Diamond Jubilee Award. Our group recently raised $25000 towards the purchase of CinemaVision with the Children's Hospital Foundation. Now every child who has an MRI can have a less scary, loud and claustrophobic experience; some even look forward to it. This also eliminates the need to be sedated to produce clear images for many children.It is my hope to be a Provincial and Canadian advocate for NF. I believe we can connect with all NF Groups to support each other with the physical, emotional and educational challenges faced every day. To help improve the lives of those living with NF, we need to advance the awareness!

Collaborate with our Board of Directors. Keep our members informed of our group's activities. Facilitate the necessary administrative and managerial tasks in line with the Manitoba Neurofibromatosis mission and financial objectives. Fundraise and plan events. The Manitoba Neurofibromatosis Support Group was formed in 2005.  The group provides an opportunity for families and individuals affected by NF to share their stories and resources.   MBNF received its charitable status in August 2007.MBNF provides confidential support and distributes information about NF to members, families, health care professionals, and various organizations. We publish an annual newsletter and hold two Support Group Meetings each year.  We host an up-to date website with a members Forum. We host a variety of fundraising events and group get-togethers to support those living with neurofibromatosis. We continually look for ways to advance the awareness of NF.
