Bringing the arts and music to healthcare through workshops, community art projects, partnerships and at the bedside. Patients living with complex health issues can access the arts and experience the health benefits of building community, rediscovering their creativity and finding meaning and purpose. Implementing a Montessori approach to residents living with dementia that includes, painting murals to liven the living space, and creating interactive activity stations for residents that maintain cognitive skills, fine and gross motor skills and communication skills; all with the goal of keeping residents active and engaged with family members, volunteers and staff.Conducted needs assessment of volunteers during COVID-19.Taught hospital and long-term care volunteers workshops on: Communicating at End-of-Life, Team Building, "Doing: Disability (simulation). Supervised arts program volunteers.Coordinated accreditation process and application for volunteer program.

Responsible for education initiatives that enhance competencies of frontline staff through the following projects in partnership with Algonquin College: Enhancing clinical nursing leadership in long-term care; Communication at End-of-Life for Personal Support Workers; Gerontological placements for 4th year nursing students. Also coordinated online learning modules to meet mandatory training requirements for LTC staff on dementia, pressure ulcers and safe work practices. Led program evaluations for each project.Provide KT support for health systems-level research projects aimed at building future capacity of LTC: health outcomes of residents in LTC, health care costs at end-of-life, patient flow through community care networks to reduce alternate level of care (ALC) blockages, longitudinal study on triggers of responsive behaviours, and human health resources. Managed and tracked projects, contributed to quarterly and annual reporting to Ontario Ministry of Health and Advisory Groups.Coordinated provincial-level conference held in Ottawa on November 9-10, 2015 called Building momentum for long-term care. Over 300 delegates attended. Developed and facilitated Annual Educators' Day for long-term care homes and educators to share best practices, build community.Integrated the arts into recreation programs and evaluated impacts.

Responsible for developing and leading national Knowledge Exchange Strategies that use research, build capacity, and leverage partnerships to encourage and assist practitioners to implement research. Key projects included: Canadian Standards for Youth Substance Abuse Prevention; Canada`s Low-Risk Drinking Guidelines; and, Alcohol Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral for Primary Care Physicians.Advised on Knowledge Exchange Strategies for the Priorities: First Nations, Inuit and Métis/ Reaching Out to Canada’s North; and Pharmaceuticals.
