Multiple areas of practice in Medicine and Emergency medicine have taught me much about healthcare management. I see myself as an encourager and motivator to facilitate other ER physicians and mid level providers to improve in many measurable metrics in Emergency care. This includes team building and respect for the patient and each other. It includes reaching set goals measurable in metrics regarding good care, patient satisfaction, and the lean approach to care for more patients effectively. Patient care initiatives including EMR and Core measures. I have been a medical director for three hospital based Emergency Departments in north Alabama. This role has been very enlightening to me as director to understand the Emergency Department as the community impression of the local hospital. It has also allowed me to gain some insight into hospital and and hospital system management. I have also worked as a Hospitalist caring for inpatients. This experience is invaluable in my career and has prepared me to handle situations involving patients and families as well as dealing with the challenges of balancing costs and reimbursements associated with inpatient and outpatient care and the transitions involved. I feel that my many roles as a hospital based physician have taught me to better understand the importance of the team approach between ER Physician, the Inpatient Physician, and hospital administration. I am continuing to grow in the many aspects of Physician/Administration relationship and mutual goals for success in giving patients the best care anywhere.
