About Tracy Staples
I am passionate about human expression and creativity. As a tutor, writer, storyteller, photographer, bibliophile, and lover of music and education, I believe all art forms provide priceless opportunities to encourage self-expression and reflection--key means of engaging with and acquiring new knowledge. Much of my educational fulfillment comes from engendering a sense of community and creating supportive bonds between learners and peers alike. My interests are focused on facilitating inspiration through tutoring and teaching, writing, and a passion for rare books and special library collections. In September of 2015, I participated in the Naylor Workshop for Undergraduate Research in Writing Studies for research conducted on first-year writing students at Goucher College. In April of 2016, I presented my findings at the Undergraduate Poster Session at the Conference for College Composition and Communication (CCCC) in Houston, Texas. I was an intern and student researcher in the Henry and Alberta Hirshheimer Burke '28 Jane Austen Collection in Goucher's Special Collections & Archives throughout 2016 and most of 2017.On February 7, 2017, I stood in front of a sold-out audience at The Senator Theatre to tell a personal story for Baltimore's Stoop Storytelling Series, the recording of which was broadcasted on public radio station WYPR.For my final two semesters at Goucher, I embarked on an independent study in Art entitled "A Prospective Self," which combined personal memoir, photography, and ephemera to show the story of a life. The personally curated gallery exhibition appeared in Goucher's Corrin Gallery between Monday, May 15 and Friday, May 19, 2017.
