I work on projects throughout TNC's Africa Program (Angola, Kenya, Gabon, Tanzania, and Zambia). I am presently the lead technical scientist on work in the Okavango Basin, where I am actively engaged in building a hydrological model for the basin that will allow users to assess tradeoffs among different potential on-the-ground interventions in the Angola portion of the basin and support sustainable nature-based financing mechanisms for basin development. I was recently the Project Manager for the Lake Tanganyika Freshwater Atlas, which brought together more than 700 layers of spatial data for decision-makers and to identify and work with local and regional government institutions and stakeholders to identify and describe Key Biodiversity Areas within the lake. I am involved in TNC's Africa region programs as a technical expert at many levels: *Basin-scale hydrologic modeling *Data compilation *Threat mapping and analysis *Spatial and ecosystem services modeling *Project reporting and grant writing *Cartography, including web mapping *Field campaigns *Capacity building materials developmentI work both independently and as an active member of teams seeking to identify existing ecological resources and ecosystem services, as well as threats to those resources and their contribution to ecosystem functioning. A significant focus of my technical work is to model the impacts of development scenarios on the functioning of natural systems, including but not limited to hydropower dam development, land cover change, and climate change.

As a research scientist with over a decade of expertise in Africa's water resources, a primary focus of my work was developing novel approaches to hydrological modeling using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) in data scarce regions and in exploring approaches for more tightly coupling social and biophysical sciences. I worked closely with Anthropologists and other social scientists to explore this topic. My focal projects included closing out the Nile 4 component of the Nile Basin Development Challenge (https://nilebdc.org/), WISE-UP to Climate in Kenya's Tana River Basin (http://www.waterandnature.org/initiatives/wise-climate), and I led the development of and facilitated the CGIAR SWAT Community of Practice and was an active member of the Water Land and Ecosystems Gender Community of Practice.

I taught courses in Hydrology, Groundwater Hydrology, Remote Sensing, Watershed Management, Physical Geography, and Human Geography and Ecology. I also taught writing for the sciences through my course in Physical Geography. In addition to teaching, I engaged in research collaborations with the Norman Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture on projects in Africa.

My area of focus was to develop educational programs with an emphasis on challenges at the wildland-urban interface in the central corridor of Texas. I provided training, technical expertise and educational support on watershed management issues. I also worked individually and as a team member to plan, execute and evaluate curricula development, applied research, seminars, and seek external funding for effective technology transfer to adult and youth clientele on management of watersheds. In addition, I had international collaborations with the Norman Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture on projects in South Africa and the Republic of South Sudan.

I participated in on-going research focused on land and water use implications under predicted climate change. Duties included spatially explicit estimates of changes in water use driven by land use change using hydrologic models. This entailed collecting, organizing, integrating, and generating spatially explicit data sets and using these data to explore factors and mechanisms affecting water use. I also supervised a graduate student in developing a thesis topic and planning and carrying out field campaigns in Ghana to collect a variety of spatial and social data, which included survey development and sampling design.

Conducted and organized field campaigns for collecting soil and land cover data in Kenya’s Rift Valley. Collaborated extensively with Kenyan research scientists at Egerton University and Kenya Wildlife Service. Obtained, assessed and maintained spatial data sets from government agencies within Kenya and the United States. Edited and created GIS layers using ArcVIew, ArcGIS and ARC/INFO. Classified and assessed land cover and land use data using ERDAS IMAGINE. Collaborated with Kenyan and American research scientists to identify and develop project activities and scope of work plans. Successfully wrote applications for and received research funding. Designed and developed tools for spatial analysis, including the framework for a Multiple Objective Spatial Decision Support System (MODSS) for natural resources planning. Participated in large mammal surveys and climate and hydrologic data collection in Lake Nakuru National Park. Worked with local communities to develop stakeholder driven research objectives as well as additional aspects of the overall project, including meeting and coordinating with government and non-governmental agencies.

Worked with reporters, photographers, and advertising and graphic design staff to plan page layouts and ensure all elements worked together. Wrote headlines and edited AP content to fit into available space in the newspaper. Wrote headlines and video captions. Carried out final proofreading and editing on pages and sent to press daily.

Wrote test procedures and documentation for new products. This included working closely with developers and testers to write procedures based on developers goals and objectives and then collect information from testers on errors to report back. Managed large volumes of technical software testing documentation and managed error reports.
