About Tracy Mcfarlan

I have long been a history lover, curious about why things exist the way they do. As Associate Director of Curatorial Projects, I oversee a team of 15 colleagues to direct the workflow of 10 to 15 current and upcoming exhibitions at the Museum of the City of New York. Previously, I served as Public Programs Manager and drew on the city’s rich and dynamic history as a source of inspiration to develop live events for adult audiences. While working at the Museum, I completed my Master’s Degree in Public History at New York University. Through my classes, an internship with the National Park Service, and a capstone project with the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, I have continued to explore how our knowledge of the past can inform—and impact—the present.Key Accomplishments: Spearheaded MCNY’s landmark centennial exhibition program: Led an internal team of 15 staff and five external design partners and consultants to develop a sweeping 7,200 sq ft multimedia exhibition totaling over $3M in direct expenses and featuring over 190 objects including works by Richard Estes, Edward Hopper, and Faith Ringgold, as well as Martin Scorsese and Jimi Hendrix Piloted new systems to strategically reuse exhibition casework: Conceived, proposed, and executed a program to analyze the dimensions of common exhibition elements to store, build, and track casework stock to reduce fabrication costs, eliminate unnecessary waste, and to help MCNY become more environmentally sustainable. Generated unprecedented growth in MCNY’s Public Programs Department: Directed departmental operations, outreach, and reporting, yielding over $150,000 in annual income, a 78% increase from 2015 to 2019I specialize in: Content Development: Communications | Marketing | Research | Copywriting | Storytelling | Editing | Proofreading | Attention to Detail | Critical Thinking | Active Listening | Public Relations | Drupal | Mailchimp | Adobe Creative Suite | SmartsheetLeadership & Management: Problem Solving | Goal Attainment | Operational Efficiencies | Time Management | Adaptable | Organized | Diplomatic | Positive | Team Building | Budgeting | Empathetic | Facilitation | Stakeholder and Vendor Management
