I serve as assistant director and editorial adviser to student employees at the Student Media and Publications Department at the University of Texas at El Paso.

I oversaw the editorial staff, assisting editors and ensuring smooth production of the weekly newspaper, Las Cruces Bulletin, and monthly regional newspaper, Desert Exposure. I recruited, hired and managed freelance writers, photographers and graphic designers. The bulk of my day-to-day tasks revolved around managing special projects, including a legislative guide, a community guide, a wedding magazine and a guide for new college students, among others. Regularly worked with KRWG-FM to produce a five-minute preview of each week's edition.

Produced the SunLife and Healthy Living sections in the Las Cruces Sun-News, as well as the weekly neighborhood publication My Las Cruces and the monthly health magazine, Healthy U. Managed a staff of two reporters, an entertainment editor and several freelance writers and photographers.

Wrote, edited and compiled content and managed freelance contributors for the weekly entertainment publication, Pulse, published each Thursday as a product of the Las Cruces Sun-News.

Edited, compiled and posted content for dallasnews.com. Created and managed online databases. Assisted in social media marketing of online stories and contests.

~ Senior online editor, March 2007 – July 2008Managed websites and databases for Las Cruces Sun-News, The Deming Headlight and Silver City Sun-News, which included posting daily content, compiling weekly traffic reports, meeting annual goals for the sites, implementing news projects and generally improving the site’s appearance, content and traffic.

Designed pages and edited newspaper copy for The Las Cruces Sun-News, The Deming Headlight, and the Silver City Sun-News before transitioning into an online editor and digital content specialist role.

Oversaw all aspects and functions of the newspaper, prepared weekly story budgets, conducted meetings, wrote columns, edited copy, set and enforced deadlines, designed news section and maintained payroll.
