The 2001-2002 Flex Your Power was funded by the legislature for $110 million in response to the needs seen by the energy crisis and operated through the State and Consumer Services Agency (SCSA). The large 2001-2002 efforts included an advertising campaign and 13 initiatives. The initiatives involved education, outreach, and partnering with a variety of leadership and organizations to obtain commitments to reduce energy usage (often by 20%) and to reach many people and businesses across many sectors in California. This included state leadership, local government, BOMA/SEUI janitors, CEOs, energy education in schools, nonprofits, door-to-door information and CFLs in low-income neighborhoods, agriculture education and load-shifting, saving energy through saving water, small business, promoting efficient appliances, lighting, and home improvement, Grocery Store Customer Awareness, and college campus outreach. Managed statewide CIOs and headquarters team, represented campaign with cabinet-level leaders and stage agency/local government programs; assisted in developing and delivering call-to-action and education messaging across every sector of constituency in California in order to draw down 5,000 MW of energy usage through energy efficiency actions and measures during the energy crisis in California.
