Author - "The End Of Technophobia" (Australia'S Business Book & Best Technology Book 2021)
The Digital Guide Mar 2021 - Present
    Toowoomba, Qld, Au
There are 582 million entrepreneurs globally and 60% of people who start a small business are aged between 40 and 60.The End of Technophobia: a practical guide to digitising your business was developed and written for every small business owner who has ever felt overwhelmed by technology or unsure where they should begin.Unlike younger generations, small business owners in the 40 - 60 year age group did not grow up with any kind of technology. Everything had a manual process and marketing a business was typically based around local word of mouth or traditional media. As a result many people within this age group feel as though the digital revolution has happened to them, passing them over and leaving them completely overwhelmed where to start as a result. They struggle with understanding the role digital marketing plays in their business, how they could increase their productivity through digitisation or reach new and emerging markets. The End of Technophobia allows small business owners to look at their business as a whole and addresses common questions across a range of business areas. From marketing and sales, to finance and productivity. Even how to effectively work remotely (a skill many had to adopt in 2020), customer experience and the emerging threats of cyber security. The book is written as part reference, part knowledge base and all personality with plenty of opportunity to pause and immediately integrate learnings into their business. The End of Technophobia will help all readers overcome the overwhelm they feel around technology, embrace their inner geek and improve their bottom line while being better able to service their client base.

    Founder & Creative Director
Unusual Comms Feb 2011 - Present
“Unusual Comms” came about during my corporate life. The engagement I achieved through my campaigns & my understanding of the holistic nature of business was often described as ‘unusual’We’re a digital marketing agency based in Brisbane, with clients in Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns & as far as UK & Germany. We work with businesses who recognise the role marketing & tech has (or could have) within their business, but are either: ➢ unsure where to start & don’t want to waste time, resources & finances trying to figure it out themselvesor ➢ need to use what they have more efficiently. Being at the leading edge of marketing & tech for over 20 yrs has given me unique insights into this space. I love demystifying marketing & tech for business owners & showing them how to ‘level up’ by effectively utilising smart tools. We work with clients in the following areas:➢ Digital Marketing Strategy (like using a GPS in an unknown area)➢ Content Marketing. Creating ‘smart’ content to entice clients, such as web copy with an SEO/story focus, social media mgmt with purpose or a suite of collateral as free/low cost value adds.➢ Podcasting. As a judge for the Australian Podcast Awards & fellow podcaster I’m constantly blown away by the content goldmine a podcast creates, & the authority and community building that goes hand in hand.➢ Marketing automation. As certified Ontraport providers and Hubspot partners one of our greatest joys is helping a business automate systems, processes & a portion of their regular client communications. As a business owner myself I understand that everyone is at different points on their business journey. That's why we’ve developed different ways you can engage Unusual Comms to implement the right marketing & tech solution for your business:➢ Taught to you➢ Done with you➢ Done for youLike to know more? Allowing our clients to stream content (eg advertising, band messaging or OHS messages) to each and every team member every time they press a button to make a coffee. "Wow, this is actually really good".. From there the die was cast.Diva Coffee/ Coffee Machine Express QLD (or CME QLD) was born in March 2010, the vision from the outset was to overwhelm people with our service and to create a culture of CME "evangelists" - we don't just want happy customers, we want raving fans!!So, if you work in an atmosphere of instant coffee - or your running down the street to your favourite cafe a few times a day to quench that caffeine hit, give me a call... • Telstra
    Regional Manager Retail Channel
    Telstra Jun 2008 - Dec 2009
    Sydney, Nsw, Au
The Telstra retail channel in QLD comprised of a mix of independently owned licensed stores as well as company owned and operated locations. At the time there were around 110 locations that fell under the QLD state retail jurisdiction. The role of an area manager was to provide ongoing mentoring and support to the leadership in each store as well as drive and deliver set KPIs. Training and development of frontline teams was a big focus of my time as an area manager as it was my belief that well trained customer centric staff would go a long way to assisting the stores to reach their sales targets.During my time as area manager I took responsibility for 18 independent licensees who were responsible for 22 retail locations between Cairns and Grafton. The stores had a combined turnover in excess of $50 million and grew across the board approx 10% on previous year. I assisted in driving local area marketing relevant to each of the locations and together we successfully exceeded each of the company set KPIs during my time in the role. The role required significant travel and time spent on the ground with each of the locations as well as meeting company commitments such as regular conference calls and team meetings in Melbourne.
  • Telstra
    National Business Transformation Analyst
    Telstra 2005 - 2008
    Sydney, Nsw, Au
The retail TR1 Project Team was a group of 4 core team members representing the interests of the 4000+ employees across the retail network, comprising approx 400 stores nationally.I was seconded to the project team from my previous role & given the portfolio of establishing the L&D programs used across the retail outlets. Working with key external stakeholders we devised a program that included solutions for our regional and remote stores as well as our city based locations. The challenges of training 4000+ staff across the nation while keeping the stores open for business took significant creative thinking and a willingness for all stores to work together.Early on I recognised a robust communication method needed to be adopted to ensure all parties were kept up to date. From area and mid level managers to company store managers and licensees each group required different information at different times to ensure they hit key milestones. The team developed a mix of regular conference calls, workshops, webinars and on the ground support to ensure the communications flowed freely and accurately.Frontline staff were chosen to become part of focus groups & store champions to ensure we had support for the IT change. Change management training was also provided to assist our retail staff to transition from the existing old IT systems across to the new way of working. The project team successful navigated all milestones and all retail outlets went live on our project date. Ongoing support groups were provided remotely as well as face to face for the first 3 months post deployment to ensure all staff were well supported during the changeover.A post implementation review was conducted which saw the team acknowledged with a CEO award.
  • Telstra
    Retail Sales Coach
    Telstra 2004 - 2005
    Sydney, Nsw, Au
The QLD state retail manager employed me to design, develop and implement a retail focussed coaching pilot program. The concept behind the program was to discover if frontline staff were provided ongoing support, coaching and training in their own store if the company would see a direct impact on the sales by location.Initially the program rolled out to 10 company stores between the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. Internally I undertook all of the company sales training and gained access to all of the frontline marketing and sales campaigns prior to launching in the stores. I developed a store roster where I could spend extended amounts of time on the floor learning and watching interactions between staff and clients. This pre work allowed me to develop a program which was a mix of team training conducted onsite, 1:1 coaching as well as on the job coaching and support. Within the first 30 days of rolling the pilot program out we saw on average a 10 - 15% uptake on sales within each location. By the end of month 3 each of the locations had increased their location sales by a minimum of 15% with the best location seeing an uptake of closer to 30%.Over 6 months we saw staff attrition drop and succession planning was implemented as an unseen bonus across the locations. As a result of the success of the program the methodologies were adopted and rolled out nationally.
