Through consulting and project development support, I help clients — water resource agencies and municipalities with public water utilities —successfully protect our water resources. I’m passionate about helping people solve water issues, both surface and ground, to ensure a safe and reliable water supply.Prior to joining Burns & McDonnell, I served 33 years in positions related to Kansas water resource management, including 14 years as director of the Kansas Water Office (KWO), the state’s water planning, policy, and coordination agency.I’ve been dedicated to the management, conservation, and development of water resources of the state. I believe it is essential to protect, extend and conserve the vital resource for future generations.During my tenure at KWO, I served as chairman of the Governor’s Drought Response Team and the Kansas GIS Policy Board. I was also an appointed member of the Western States Water Council and represented Kansas on the Missouri River Association of States and Tribes.In 2013, I was appointed to co-lead the development of a 50-Year Water Vision for Kansas, along with the Kansas Secretary of Agriculture.There are a lot of things I’m proud of, but the 50-Year Vision may have been the capstone because it was based on facts and data gathered from stakeholders throughout the course of 600 meetings and it now serves as a realistic plan to preserve and protect vital water resources for many years to come. The vision also led to the creation of water technology farms that serve to research and test procedures for improved management of the endangered Ogallala Aquifer.A native Kansan, I grew up on a diversified family farm in Brown County. I hold a bachelor's degree in agriculture and agriculture economics from Missouri Western State University and a master's in public administration from the University of Kansas.My wife, Denise, and I have two children. I love to camp, golf, hunt and fish, and I’m a licensed private pilot.
