Install and configure the operating system (Windows or Unix), Database (Oracle, DB2, MS/SQL), Application Server (WebSphere, WebLogic), HA software (Veritas, Microsoft), LDAP server, DNS, third party software, load balancers, etc. Ensure consistency and compatibility between products. Validate the expectations of the customer. End-to-end complete system verification tests such as integration tests, performance, regression, stress and scalability tests are all conducted on the complete environment. Some environments are Highly Available.

Responsible for installing, configuring and testing several FileNet products in High Availability (cluster and farm) and Disaster Recovery (hot site) environments. Build and configure the entire environment, which includes an HA database system (Oracle or DB2 in a Veritas cluster or MS/SQL in a Microsoft Cluster), SAN or other shared storage, farmed J2EE application servers such as WebSphere or WebLogic, LDAP, several FileNet products and various third party products, such as Microsoft SharePoint on IIS (farmed with Microsoft Network Load Balancer), all in a cluster, farm or hot site environment. Load balance with a Cisco or F5 hardware load balancer. Perform failover and disaster recovery tests. Data replication and failover to the on-line hot site is tested using Veritas Volume Replicator. The FileNet software is installed using Veritas or Windows clustering software, and/or WebSphere or WebLogic application server farms. Some FileNet software supports farms natively.

Maintain Oracle, MS/SQL and DB2 databases, both local and remote. OS support includes TCP/IP, NFS, NIS and DNS support, MC Service Guard, Microsoft Network Load Balancer, Microsoft Cluster Services, configuration and kernel tuning. Configure and maintain a large Windows 2000 AD domain. Test the installation and upgrades of Image Services and verify the documentation. Support the developers, QA test engineers and third-level customer support engineers. Be involved with the integration of new releases of operating systems, Oracle, DB2 and MS/SQL with our products and with the co-location of several of our products.

My responsibilities included network (TCP/IP) support and security, building and maintaining an internet firewall, code conversion/migration, database support, Unix installation and support, performance monitoring and tuning, X-Windows, file system repair, RAID disks, hot stand-by systems, communications between systems (before networks!), and programmer support.
