User Experience Research Assistant

Calgary, Canada Area

· Analyzed participant gestures for interacting with objects in augmented reality to better understand user mental models for how participants thought about the 3D holographic objects and their own roles in the scene while using the HoloLens.· Explored the impact of scale in relation to the gestures elicited from user studies. The study produced three main findings: for most gestures, participants seemed to use physical interactions to operate on the objects; the size of the objects and scene influence the gestures participants perform; and people tend to touch smaller objects but increasingly interact from a distance as the size of the objects and scene grows larger.· Created, organized and conducted the user study, working with participants to ensure the study ran smoothly and address any concerns. Documented all gestures used by participants during the study to present to co-authors.· Developed an app for the HoloLens for the user study in C# using Unity and Visual Studio. The app was designed to show the before and after images of the referent to the participant, while allowing the me to control what the participant sees remotely. The app also allowed for the manipulation of scenes using the built-in HoloLens gestures but were remotely disabled during user studies.
