As a Manufacturing Engineer for CB Machining and Engineering my job duties include creating work flow processes from the print to part shipment for aerospace components and sub assemblies. Those work flow processes include procurement of raw materials and any hardware, fasteners, and tooling needed for the job, selecting what vendors to use for any outside processes, creation of setup sheets, tool lists, job travelers, CNC programs and fixture designs that will be needed for manufacturing. When I started my employment at CB Machining, I was hired as a Machinist, operating and setting up Haas, Mori Seiki, Doosan, and Makino 4 axis mills. As time went on I started doing more programming and was eventually asked to join the Engineering team. We are currently using Mastercam 2020 for all of our CAM and Autodesk Fusion 360 for all of our CAD.

It was here, in my second year of college working part time at night that I got a great understanding of G and M code. All of our programming was done on the machines, either long hand or conversationally on the control. The machine tools I operated and programmed included Haas, Milltronics, and Sharp 3 axis milling machines. Nakamura, Takisawa, and Haas lathes. This gave me a good understanding of many different controls and their intricacy’s. As a bonus I even got to do some TIG / MIG welding when the machine shop was slow. On the night crew it was me and two other tech school students, we verified each others setups and inspected each others parts, if we had problems we had to work through them together, there was no experienced personnel around to ask for help. This made me realize early in my career how important it is to work as a team in a manufacturing environment.
