Strive to be better today than you were yesterday.I always thought my dream was to run an off-road shop, helping other Jeep enthusiasts to realize a vehicle of their dreams. For the last 15 years, I wasn’t all that far from that dream. I was assisting in the management of several Jeep parts departments, along with helping customers to create a Jeep that they loved. It seemed like a great dream, given my passion for all things Jeep and off-roading. I gravitated towards parts management because the challenges were intriguing and ever-present, which was a great balance to interacting with customers building their dream Jeeps. But I yearned for more, and the passion I once had begun to wain.That’s when I stumbled upon a spark that ignited a passion I was not aware of - software development. Sure, I had dabbled a bit in school with HTML and CSS back when MySpace was still cool (I know, I know), but there was so much more to explore than a simple web page. It wasn’t long before I enrolled at Turing and was on my way to learning Front End Design. As I progressed through the program learning JavaScript and React, I was able to be creative with page layouts and designs, tinker with the code until I understood it, explore new ways of solving problems, and, above all, enjoy the challenge of it all. I love being able to create engaging and useful applications. From the initial concept through the design and build process to a (mostly) finished product, the ability to create something from nothing is an amazing and oddly satisfying experience. But of course, nothing is ever really done, there’s always some way to improve it. I think I am very much the same way; moldable, but I still keep my creative enthusiasm intact.My specialties include quickly learning new skills and ideas, creative problem-solving, responsive design principles, and the Model View Controller (MVC) method of organizing code. So far, I have JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Sass, React, Hooks, Redux, Vue, Vuex, Vuetify, Node.JS, Express, Knex, Jest, Enzyme, TDD, Jira, Git, and GitHub under my belt. I still enthusiastically seek out new programming languages, frameworks, or principles which I can integrate into programming toolbox.
