In February 2011 I was given the opportunity to take a secondment on a new temporary role, as Sales and Operations Manager for QLD, reporting to the Northern Sales and Operations Manager. This role came about due to GDTA having an all new ELT, with the heads of the retail division being from outside of the industry. The opportunity was to oversee 4 Regional Managers in QLD/NT and to be involved in policy creation and business strategy on a national level. During this time I used my knowledge and experience to help shape the business and I gained valuable insight into high level management practice, through regular meetings at corporate office in Melbourne.

In early 2008 I was promoted to Regional Manager for S/E QLD Retail. In this role I was responsible for 20 stores in the greater Brisbane and coastal region, comprising of 70 associates and a sales budget of around $22m per annum. During my time as Regional Manager my core focus was on the key drivers for customer satisfaction - associate development and retention, store and associate presentation, local market awareness and inventory management. I firmly believe customer satisfaction equates to sustainable business growth. Other items of emphasis for me were audit compliance and OH&S compliance, both of which I have a zero tolerance policy towards serious or unethical breaches.

Originally joining the company in 2001 as an Assistant Manager I was promoted to the role of Store Manager at the Fortitude Valley branch in the beginning of 2003, a loss making store at the time with annual sales revenue of around $750K p/a. I applied myself to the task of reviving the store with great success, building on existing markets and developing new accounts. I achieved sales and profit AOP for 5 years running, with the final year’s sales revenue at $1.7m. During this time I achieved “AA” grade audits each year with an exemplary OH&S record. Armstrong Holden, now Barton’s Holden, was a thriving Holden dealership in Brisbane. Originally joining in 1997 as a technician in the Pre-Delivery department, I soon became the departments Manager, overseeing both technicians and detailing staff. The role primarily consisted of co-ordinating between sales staff, administration staff, suppliers, and my own staff, to ensure all vehicles were delivered to the consumer as ordered, in a timely manner, and of the highest quality possible.
