CurrentDesign for Additive Manufacturing Tools and Methods Development Principal Investigator• Foundational identification, testing, and evaluation of AM targeted design, business case, modeling, manufacturing prep software tools and methods.• Development of methods and tools for evaluation of part suitability for LPBF, EBM, DED, FDM, and other AM technologies based on design, material, and business requirements• Structural topology optimization benchmarking and deployment• AM fluid topology optimization validation and producibility testing• Geometric tolerance and support structure investigation and standardization• Development, testing, and maturation of AM isogrid, orthogrid, and other AM enabled structural gridding methods in the Collins design, FEA, and manufacturing environments leveraging nTopology. • Program and design lead for DfAM Demonstrator Program.• Identification, downselection, business case preparation, and redesign of AM parts from clean sheet to first article producibility testing and analytical performance validation.• Managed multi disciplinary internal team as well as partnering SMEs, practitioners, and external resources to collaborate. Team totalling in size of over 12 contributors• High Pressure Air Ducting - AM + fluid topology optimization program that resulted in a design with 90% pressure drop improvement..• Aerodynamic Lightweight Wiper Arm - AM + Structural + Aerodynamic optimization program that resulted in a design with upwards of 70% drag reduction and 50% weight reduction, and the filing of a patent to protect the part design IP.• Topology Optimized Mounting Bracket - AM + Structural topology optimization program for a drone camera bracket which lead to 40% weight reduction, 10% cost savings, and 15% assembly reduction
