I received my bachelor's degree at Eastern Kentucky University with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry with an emphasis on Botany. From there I earned a Ph.D in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Kentucky's Department of Biology studying the role of the JAK/STAT signalling pathway in the development of Drosophila melanogaster. For my post-doctoral research I joined UK College of Medicine's Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry unit studying structural biochemisty and enzyme kinetics in an Alzheimer's disease model. I next moved to translational and clinical research to lead clinical projects that aim to study the interactions between thrombosis and inflammation in human cardiovascular disease. In 2012 I began work as a clinical study coordinator in the Saha Cardiovascular Research Center in the lab of Dr. Susan Smyth. During my time with Dr. Smyth I served as the primary coordinator and sub-investigator for multiple clinical studies. As a researcher I lead all aspects of the projects from patient recruitment/enrollment, sample/data acquisition, data analysis, manuscript writing/publishing. I served as mentor to a number of undergraduate and medical student volunteers with their research. In June 2021 I chose to leave behind basic science and pursue clinical research full time. I joined the Division of Cardiology at Univeristy of Kentucky as a full time Clinical Research Coordinator. My accumulated experience allowed me to pursue a certificate in clinincal research and in 2022 I earned my CCRP certification. Today I continue work in clinical research in the Division of Cardiology as the primary coordinator of a variety of nationwide and worldwide sponsor based clinical research studies.
