- Worked on a collaboration project between the Fischell Department of Bioengineering and Canon U.S. Life Sciences that explored future diagnostic applications of Canon's technologies. - Researched potential improvements to blood sample preparation and delivery in a microfluidic environment. This included testing efficacy of droplet PCR. - Specifically tested various oil and surfactant combinations for use in droplet PCR protocol. Generated emulsions to test oil/surfactant combinations in conjunction with bacterial DNA templates and PCR mastermix.

- Position involved assay development for use in future genetic diagnostic tool involving microfluidic Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and High Resolution Melt (HRM)- Specifically worked on gene scanning project within the Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR) gene. The goal of the project was to identify mutations within the CFTR that can be used to diagnose Cystic Fibrosis.- Tested primer sets and experimental protocols on the Roche LC480 qPCR platform before before moving protocol to microfluidic PCR platform.- Developed gene scanning assay responsible for amplifying 97% of CFTR gene.

- Responsible for 8 week project on transcriptional control of embryonic salivary gland organogenesis in mice. - Used reverse transcription and real-time PCR to investigate expression levels of identified transcription factors regulating gland development. Generated standard curves and made use of housekeeping gene (b-Actin) to quantify expression levels of transcription factors. - Prepared samples for Whole Transcriptome Shotgun Sequencing (WTSS/RNA-seq), which was used to further quantify expression levels of transcription factors at three distinct developmental stages in salivary gland development (embryonic 13.5, 15.5, and 17.5 days). - Project culminated in full lab report and poster presentation on overall findings and results.
