Author of "Better Days Will Come Again," the epic life of Arthur Briggs, known as the "Louis Armstrong of France," who survived four years in a Nazi prison camp. Co-author of "Traveling Soul," (2016) the first comprehensive bio of soul icon Curtis Mayfield, from Chicago Review Press. I've reported and written more than 300 articles about art, culture, and current events. My work has been published in Japan, Spain, the UK, and of course America. I co-wrote the first authorized biography of iconic soul musician Curtis Mayfield, with his son. I am adept at researching, interviewing, writing, and editing.I am also a proficient audio engineer, with 11 years of experience recording, editing, mixing, mastering, and producing critically acclaimed music using Cubase and Ableton software. I have used this experience to edit sound for documentaries as well.As a musician, I have spent more than a decade writing, recording, performing, and touring. I have traveled across the country many times, and my music has been featured on FX's "Better Things," MTV, GQ.com, and in the indie film, "The Myth of the Great American Sleepover." I've performed at Bonnaroo and SXSW.

WriterChicago Review Press Jan 2020 - PresentUnited StatesArthur Briggs’s life was Homeric in scope. Born on the tiny island of Grenada, he set sail for Harlem during the Renaissance, then to Europe in the aftermath of World War I, where he was among the first pioneers to introduce jazz music to the world. During the legendary Jazz Age in Paris, Briggs’s trumpet provided the soundtrack while Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and the rest of the Lost Generation created their immortal masterpieces. By the 1930s, Briggs was considered “the Louis Armstrong of Paris,” and was the peer of the greatest names of his time, from Josephine Baker to Django Reinhardt. Even during the Great Depression, he was secure as “the greatest trumpeter in Europe.” He did not, however, heed warnings to leave Paris before it fell to the Nazis, and in 1940, he was arrested and sent to the prison camp at Saint Denis. What happened at that camp, and the role Briggs played in it, is truly unforgettable.Better Days Will Come Again, based on groundbreaking research and including unprecedented access to Briggs’s oral memoir, is a crucial document of jazz history, a fast-paced epic, and an entirely original tale of survival. -
