He helped me import my data into ArcGIS, as well as teach me how to use the software. As he assisted me with my data for my Master’s Thesis he demonstrated a high degree of expertise with Python programming and ArcGIS data analysis. Because of Mr. Douce’s vast knowledge of Python programming he converted my 20,000 + data points into ArcGIS. Mr. Douce wrote a script in Python that created a geodatabase and then filtered and converted my 53 Excel files, which were in a nested directory tree, to feature classes with correct data typing and imported them to the geodatabase. His Python program also converted my Excel files into a format MATLAB would accept. Mr. Douce not only demonstrated proficiency with IT, but he was clearly enthusiastic about his work, especially the power of Python programming. I consider that I have benefited significantly from his assistance and will be acknowledging him in my Master’s Thesis for his IT expertise regarding my Thesis. I enthusiastically recommend Mr. Douce for his skills in IT particularly with Python and ArcGIS. Mr. Douce has been extremely helpful to me and I am grateful to him. Agri-food systems are large and complex with many actors – from the type of food we eat to the way it’s produced, transported, and delivered. DIAL is rethinking the agri-food sector by creating connections across fragmented ecosystems to deliver digital innovation and new businesses that meet specific industry needs, and in turn, provides consumers with access to healthy, affordable, sustainable, and transparent food. DIAL develops entrepreneurs and ideas to create and fund high-value startup companies for the agri-food industry. As a DIAL Fellow, I am building robust connections with industry experts and am establishing connections with investors, foundation program offices, policy specialists, and other entrepreneurs to grow and inform my business. I am engaging with industry to identify critical needs and challenges, then working closely with Purdue faculty, staff, and students to discover potential ways to address those challenges. I work remotely on a small team of 4 engineers. I build features from concept to delivery. This requires understanding the feature as described by the CEO, comprehending the constraints of a startup environment, communicating vertically and horizontally across the company, breaking down and prioritizing work, and delivering a robust and well-tested feature. The features/processes I delivered include:* Architected and implemented code that allowed the business to pivot multiple times while finding product/market fit.* Improved the feature delivery process by incorporating an ideation phase, requirements gathering, and aspects of agile development. This helped the business and engineers align on the problem and deliver a feature that solves the actual problem.* Transformed a legacy app to a modern and idiomatic implementation, including increased test coverage from ~10% to ~90%, deleting ~50k lines of code while delivering new features.* Implemented and migrated users to a new billing, invoicing, payment system.Technologies: AWS, Git, Heroku, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Ruby on Rails.
