The City ultimately chose to abandon the Lambert Saint Louis International Airport process, similar to efforts that stalled before the Chicago Midway airport. The community process did confirm a $1 billion in unmet local capital improvement needs, the availability of more than $50 billion in targeted airport financing across the financial sector, and the need for competitive rates and gates with local airline partners such as Southwest Airlines and American Airlines. Prior statewide campaigns deployed by Grow Missouri involved a grassroots media tour with the largest non-rigid airship (blimp) company. The eventual success of Grow Missouri lead to a successful veto (Governor Jay Nixon) override vote by the Missouri State Legislature, creating the first meaningful state income tax cut in 96 years.
