I love finding creative solutions to tough problems. I value variety, novelty, and teamwork in the problems I tackle. As evidence of these values: - (novelty) I am the author or a co-author on nearly 40 peer-reviewed scientific publications. - (variety) I have published papers in experimental physics, computational physics, mathematics, computational biology, chemistry, materials science, computer science, high performance computing, and machine learning. - (teamwork) I have over 80 distinct co-authors; and, my Erdos number is 2 (iykyk).I love data. I love exploring new datasets as I quickly familiarize myself with a new domain. I love discovering questions that data can answer. I love the creative process of data visualization to illustrate those answers. And, I enjoy the challenge of presenting technical findings to a largely non-technical audience.A few self-perceived facts: - I hold a PhD in Mathematics; not coincidentally I pay attention to detail, tend to be precise, and prefer LateX to Word. - I am rarely the first person to speak or to have the most to say. I listen, observe, and seek to amplify the voices and good ideas of those around me that others fail to hear while they are busy talking. - I have very few strong opinions and even fewer opinions that I’m unwilling to change in light of new evidence or a well-reasoned argument. N.B. opinions are not facts. - I look for opportunities to promote those around me. - My love of variety extends to my hobbies. I enjoy woodworking (furniture making). I play several musical instruments (mostly organ these days, but also piano, violin, and dabbling in other instruments). I plan to combine these two hobbies soon and build an (electric) organ so I can practice at home. - I read textbooks for fun.
