I've been involved in the field of student support services, advising, mentoring, experiential learning, diversity initiatives, and social justice education for over fifteen years. I seek to bridge the deepest questions our communities face with creative, critical, and experiential education.I completed my M.A. in Social Justice at Loyola University Chicago in May 2008. Afterwards, I traveled to Nigeria to conduct grassroots research on womens' and childrens' issues. I then accepted a position at Mars Hill College, near Asheville, NC, where I served as Field Service Coordinator and Director of LifeWorks Center for Civic Engagement and Service Learning. In September 2011, I returned to Loyola Chicago to begin a new position as Community Partnerships Coordinator in the Center for Experiential Learning, focusing on strategic partnership development, non-profit capacity development, and partnership support. In July 2014, I became Associate Director of the Appalachian Center for Civic Life at Emory & Henry College, focusing on capacity development for community partners, faculty, staff, and students. Additionally I served as an academic advisor for and taught in the college's interdisciplinary Civic Innovation degree program.In January 2018, I assumed the newly formed role of Director of Academic Diversity Initiatives at Emory & Henry, working directly through the Office of the Provost to support faculty and academic programs in building inclusive and diverse learning spaces through faculty development and institutional policy change. Additionally, I served as an academic advisor for undeclared first and second year students in addition to teaching in the College's Peace & Social Justice Studies minor.In November 2020, I became the Dean of Student Success at Emory & Henry. In this role, I provide leadership and advocacy for a growing staff of professionals in first year advising, tutoring, disability and accommodation services, academic coaching, mental health counseling, and orientation/new student experience.As of January 2024 I assume the role of Assistant Vice President for Retention at Emory & Henry, where I provide leadership and advocacy across campus programs and services to ensure our students retain and persist to graduation.
