I believe that hockey contributes to Canadian citizenship, and the life skills learned in and around the game help make Canada the great country it is. I have spent my life in hockey, and I feel the work we can accomplish at Hockey Canada will make the greatest impact of my career. ---As president and chief executive officer of Hockey Canada, I am privileged to work with some of the best people in the game. From athletes, coaches and officials at all levels of the game to the backbone of hockey in Canada: the volunteers who tirelessly give their time in communities from coast to coast to coast. Like all Canadians, I take great pride in the successes we have on the international stage, but our work is about more than gold medals. It is about making the game more accessible, welcoming new players into the game, and ensuring a safe and fun environment for every Canadian who steps onto the ice.For more than 25 years I identified as a hockey coach, and loved every second of it. The journey took me to Kamloops as a junior coach, to Vancouver, New York, Edmonton and Detroit in the National Hockey League, and to countries around the world with Team Canada. I have had the honour of serving as head coach at the Olympic Winter Games, IIHF World Championship and IIHF World Junior Championship. I have learned from players, coaches, officials and parents, and every single one of my experiences helped prepare me for the job I have today. The passion I have for our game, and for keeping Canada a world leader in everything hockey, drives me every day.
