I am currently working in eCommerce sales; I started my own online storefront utilizing my knowledge of numismatics, precious metals, and other valuables. Through careful market research I buy significantly undervalued assets, which I resell on my eBay storefront for market value. I am doing very well in this venture, and with my thorough, focused, and rational approach, coupled with my attention to detail and strong drive for success, I gained valuable experience which I hope to carry over into my future professional career. I got my start in a far different environment; working in manufacturing. In the summer of 2019, I interned for Shelter Works. I was tasked with an extensive project centered on the integration of Lean Management into the company's pre-existing system. Lean is a manufacturing recipe by which firms can increase workplace efficiency by eliminating waste in all its forms. My initial task was to take thorough and complete time-studies on each of the firm's 43 processes. Using this data, we eliminated inefficiencies and restructured the assembly line to minimize wasted time and resources. What a great summer of learning! I came to understand what the five principles of Lean are and how they can help operational throughput. The greatest takeaway about the "Toyota Way" is that all processes can perpetually be improved upon. As a result, any company can continue to make efficiency gains so long as they follow the basic Lean principles. At the conclusion of my internship, all the data I had gathered was incorporated in an improved time frame system, which helps clients get direct quotes on how long their project will take to be completed. This spike in efficiency was expected to save Shelter Works well over $250,000 annually. I'm excited that I was able to contribute meaningfully in the firm's operations, and for the real world experience I gained in applying Lean principles.
