I am actively involved with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers club at my college. We are currently completing an additive manufacturing project to create a hovercraft which will be involved in a competition to pick up and transport a payload through a ground course. This project will make great use of my CAD skills as we are required to model and create drawings for all of the 3D printed parts we use as well as a formal CAD drawing of the hovercraft with a bill of materials. We will also be using Design for Manufacture and Assembly analysis (DFMA) as well as Design for Additive Manufacturing analysis (DFAM). We will have to test our design rigorously and include our entire process in a design report. I believe this project will help me become more familiar with many necessary technical skills and further familiarize me with the engineering design process.In addition, I am an Eagle Scout and I completed an engineering based Eagle Scout Project for my highschool. The project involved me leading a large volunteer group to complete a complex welcome wall. We used an application called CorelDraw to create and export 2D designs to a laser cutter and cut them out of acrylic sheets in my highschool’s engineering lab. We ran multiple tests throughout the project and I personally troubleshot issues with the laser cutter to achieve the highest quality final product while remaining within budget constraints. We then completed the project by securely fastening all the acrylic pieces to a wall using proper hardware. I believe this project helped me grow my teamwork and leadership abilities tremendously.
