I worked as a geologist in the the environmental construction and remediation industry serving the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Air Force, NAVFAC, Marine Corps, and NASA, as well as other Department of Defense clients. I conducted geological field studies, site investigations, and remedial operations including mud rotary drilling, hollow stem auger drilling, direct-push technology drilling, soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring well installation and development, UST/AST closure and reconditioning, AFFF removal and replacement, detention basin expansion and retrofitting, and waste removal and manifesting. I also developed quality assurance project plans, accident prevention plans, site-specific safety and health plans, activity hazard analyses, and standard operating procedures, and I provided quality assurance/quality control for field work operations, field safety documentation, sampling activities, and laboratory data analysis.

• Planned and carried out long-term mapping project with four seasons of iterative, fully independent field work in adverse weather and temperature conditions in mountainous, irregular terrain to produce a detailed, professional quality, 1:24,000-scale geologic map with the use of traditional field tools and mapping equipment (Brunton compass, hand lens, etc.), an Apple® iPad® with GPS, the FieldMove™ digital mapping software, and Esri® ArcMap™ (ArcGIS™) software• Collected 100+ rock and soil samples for classification and description of lithology and created 20 thin sections for mineral identification and microstructure analysis under a petrographic microscope (polarized light microscopy)• Created 500+ data points of structural and stratigraphic measurements and constructed three 1:24,000-scale 2-D cross sections, which were projected to basement using surface and subsurface data, including seismic lines near study location• Consolidated, evaluated, and prepared relevant research and presented technical data orally (including an oral presentation at the 2017 GSA Southeastern Section Meeting in Richmond, VA) and in written thesis (publicly defended in October 2018)• Performed a variety of observations, computations, compilations, and analyses in carrying out geologic assignments, selected and made minor adaptations to procedures and accepted practices, handled unexpected conditions arising the normal course of work, and developed a sound working knowledge of the principles of geology

• Taught and supervised undergraduate laboratory sections in introductory physical geology and structural geology• Instructed students on the collection and interpretation of structural, sedimentary, and mineralogical data, the creation of geologic maps and 2-D cross sections, and the use of basic software suites to compile and present data• Reviewed lab work, maintained student grade database, and provided administrative support to course instructors• Initiated early phases of field work for mapping project portion of master’s thesis research and compiled research sources

• Supervised and conducted in vitro studies on human and bovine dental enamel samples • Extracted, mounted, and polished enamel samples, subjected samples to a series of paste or solution treatments daily over the course of several weeks, and monitored samples in neutral artificial saliva solution between treatments• Performed hardness testing with optical microscope and mounted microhardness tester (indenter), performed calcium and phosphate content analysis through acid etching and photometric solution analysis, collected and analyzed data, and presented data to both the laboratory manager and chief scientific officer in brief written report summaries• Performed calibration and troubleshooting on pH meter, photometer, and similar analytical instrumentation• Manufactured patented dental powder product and completed daily detailed process records on materials used, methods followed, materials recovered, and confirmation of adherence to strict safety and quality controls• Maintained ball mill, vacuum oven apparatus, and similar equipment in accordance with laboratory standard operating procedures and manufacturer recommendations
