As the Sr. Manager of HFE at Illumina I I lead a team of skilled Human Factors Engineers who ensure Illumina products are safe and easy to use. As part of the Product Development Process training I’ve presented Usability Engineering and how it fits into Risk Management & FDA Submissions to over 500 people across multi-disciplinary teams. I engage Human Factors activities at key points in the design and development process as well as create documentation for FDA submissions to enable a successful clinical transformation. Through design strategy, usability testing and user research my team identifies areas of opportunity to positively increase the user experience with our products.

Responsibilities included establishing a company wide Human Factors Engineering procedure and process activities throughout the product development lifecycle including initial user research and concept generation, design and development, formative usability testing and evaluations, human factors validation testing, and post-market surveillance. All activities support compliance with IEC-62366, AAMI HE75 and FDA Guidances for Human Factors in Medical Device Design.

Responsible for managing ethnographic research, interaction design, and usability engineering for medical devices, medication dispensing products, mobile based supply management systems and web based pharmacy & biomed applications. Including vendor management, usability, user research, UI design and mentoring junior interaction designers and researchers.Ensure product quality, legal and safety standards are met by managing user interface hazard analyses and timely cross-functional team collaborations of UI specification documents. Responsible for the interaction design of printer touch screen interfaces of complex photo printers.Worked closely with Experience Designers, Interaction Designers, Visual Designers and Industrial Designers to ensure a positive user experience while using retail photo publishing solutions.

Focus on developing processes and procedures for gathering user and workflow information. Assists in establishing metrics, tool and workflow development, guide usability testing and increase Business Process efficiency.

As a Usability Engineer at DirecTV, I was in charge of Usability Evaluations of product UI's, Usability Testing, UI Design (including mobile & web) Report Writing and Presentations of test results.

As the Usability Manager at Edmunds.com, I managed all UI related products, developed an onsite Usability Lab, provided design guidance throughout the development lifecycle & condcuted all Usability Tests and Evaluations.

As a User Interface Designer at Xerox I lead the design of an online document storage library, designed a scanner touchscreen, collaborated with other teammembers on the design of hardware (knobs, levers, etc.) strategies & assisted with the design of a pdf print workflow. In addition to interaction design I focused heavily on user studies and usability testing.

As a Human Factors Specialist at Titan Corporation I contracted with the FAA. The primary responsibilities were conducting ethnographic research studies of cognitive decision making in air traffic controllers. The effects of situation awareness during on the job use of ATC displays was also a large part of this research which resulted in a joint publication.
