Loom & Wool is a social enterprise focused on providing new channels for business development and community self-improvement through the connection of rural alpaca co-operatives and craftsmen with retail distribution and custom made to order offerings in both outdoor wear and high-end boutique retail outlets in the US.In Peru, alpaca breeding has a rich historical and cultural significance since before the heights of the Inca Empire. Today, despite the country being one of the largest producers of fine hair fibers in the world, a significant portion of the industry is composed of small heritage producers who live in remote areas under extreme poverty conditions. Loom & Wool seeks to develop and strengthen these small co-ops with new channels and opportunities for business, providing sustainability to century old cultural and family traditions with the benefits of a global fair-trade retail market.Responsibilities included:• Creation of the initial business plan, as well as the structure for evaluating potential partnering co-operatives based on both development and performance criteria, but also potential for meeting key sustainability objectives. • Business organization, including the setup of collaboration tools and project mapping to help in the coordination of activities across three countries and time zones.• Development of price structures and distribution channels, as well as import/export logistics and tax compliance.
