In this role I was responsible for executing the UTC Systems & Control Engineering (SCE) initiative within UTC's Building & Industrial Systems businesses. The UTC SCE mission was to transform UTC products and product development by driving sustainable, measurable improvements in business unit capability and capacity to cost effectively deliver complex systems that combine electronics, mechanical, software and controls elements. Specifically, I provided strategic direction and management over the engineering opportunities between SCE and BIS. I work with leadership across both organizations to identify technical and product development opportunities. Key AccomplishmentsTransitioned Engineering Standard Work for Model-Based Development of embedded control systems including a systems and control discipline health assessment process.Set strategy, drove startup, and served on governing board of an industry university (UTC-UConn) Institute for Advanced Systems Engineering (>$10M UTC investment).

  • United Technologies Research Center
    Staff Engineer
United Technologies Research Center Apr 2002 - Mar 2006
    East Hartford, Ct, Us
UTRC System Engineering Group. This work exercised specific system engineering skills related to system architecting, product design and development, system reliability, and system modeling. A system engineering role was assumed on 2 Otis elevator projects and 1 Carrier transportation refrigeration project. In each of these projects product function and form decomposition methodologies were applied to provide context for concept generation and system failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA). A lead facilitator role was required by these projects to lead cross-functional teams in both FMEA and concept generation sessions. System modeling requirements analysis techniques (N2 analysis) were also applied.
  • United Technologies Research Center
    Senior Research Engineer
United Technologies Research Center Mar 2001 - Apr 2002
    East Hartford, Ct, Us
UTRC Value Chain Design GroupThis work included technical facilitation of collaborative cross-functional engineering teams designing novel systems of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and aerodynamic components. The best available Value Chain Design methodologies and tools were developed and applied; including scoping, planning, training, model interpretation, information capture, guidance, analysis, result interpretation and root-cause lessons-learned evaluation. The principles of Value Engineering were also actively developed and applied throughout; including functional modeling, problem formulation modeling, flow modeling, and R&D risk assessment and reduction planning. A system level concept generation process was developed and deployed as part of a integrated concurrent engineering environment. Throughout this work, I conducted original research generating intellectual frameworks, analytical methods, computer models and engineering process simulations, and collaborative processes. In order to evaluate and select among alternative approaches, and reducing the best to practice, I applied rapid method and toolset prototyping and in-situ evaluation.
