About Trevor Levin

Interested in contributing however I can to making the technology of the next few decades benefit humanity broadly, and currently pursuing this through building our understanding of the challenges posed by artificial intelligence and our capacity to address them.As part of that strategy, I help the AI governance and policy program at Open Philanthropy allocate its resources as effectively as possible. Previously, I co-founded the Cambridge Boston Alignment Initiative, which supports and accelerates students interested in improving the impacts of AI through research, policy, and other careers. I was also a student in the JD/MPP program at Harvard Law School and Harvard Kennedy School (and may return to finish the MPP in the coming years) and the director of governance programs at the Harvard AI Safety Team.I was a 2022 Summer Research Fellow at the Centre for the Governance of AI, where I researched the impact of global talent flows on international tech competition and a spring 2022 Teaching Fellow for Joshua Greene's course on the evolution of morality and its applications to the development of advanced AI.Before shifting my focus to the impacts of AI, I prioritized making America's cities more inclusive, livable, affordable, vibrant, and sustainable, first as an intern working on criminal record expungement at LegalWorks Cleveland and then as an assistant project manager at New York-based nonprofit housing developer CAMBA Housing Ventures and as a volunteer for Open New York. Before that, I graduated from Harvard College in 2019 with a B.A. magna cum laude in Social Studies, completing minors in Economics and English. I wrote my thesis on the moral philosophy and political science of immigration policy. During school, I worked as a talent development director for the Arts board of The Harvard Crimson, as a teacher and curriculum writer for the Summer Politics Academy run by Harvard Student Agencies, an editor and research assistant for philosopher Bettina Bergo at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, and a tutor in introductory and intermediate economics courses.
