Research Director
Research Manager
Assistant Professor
My research was based in health behavior and psychology, with a particular focus on the management of chronic illness in children, adolescents, and young adults from both an individual and provider level. In addition to this domain, my research areas included technology integration toward health outcomes, coping mechanisms, healthcare policy and practice, and overall campaign evaluation. I have also begun to explore inequities in higher education, especially those exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to research, I taught upper-level research methods courses and strategic planning courses and served on a variety of university and college committees.
Graduate Research Fellow
As a Roy H. Park Doctoral Fellow, I was the lead graduate research assistant under a National Institutions of Health (NIH) and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) funded grant to assess the effectiveness of anti-smoking campaigns. This funded initiative had a total budget of $300,000, with a two-year timeline. As the graduate RA, I helped conceptualize a synthesis project on perceived message effectiveness (PME) of anti-tobacco advertisements. This included preparing annual reports and other grant-related documents. Our main objective was to conducted a systematic reviews, for which I helped develop comprehensive codebooks and subsequently code articles. I contributed to writing and revision of manuscripts, which resulted in several publications and conference presentation. When this project was finished, I worked with the UNC School of Social Work on a $170,000 funded project that helped state-wide therapeutic foster care systems to create a comprehensive social marketing plan for the unique services provided by the organization. In this capacity, I developed an interview guide and a focus group protocol to understand unique attributes about the program and why parents would be motivated to work in therapeutic foster care. I then conducted interviews and focus groups with partner agencies, current parents implementing therapeutic foster care, and prospective parents. After data collection, I analyzed the findings and wrote results that were shared with the organization and subsequent research partners.
Media Chair (Pro Bono)
Upon finishing my master's degree, I volunteered to serve on the American Diabetes Association of Lubbock's board as the Media Chair. In this role, I promoted the ADA of Lubbock and its goals to various stakeholders, including people with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, media, donors, andthe community. Furthermore, I encouraged participation for the organization’s 22nd Annual Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, which raised a record-breaking $475,000. To raise awareness of the organization and to help facilitate fundraising opportunities, I wrote press releases and served as the main media spokesperson for the several events the organization hosted, including the annual walk, healthy living symposiums, and a guest speaker series. Lastly, I secured media interviews and guest features on news programming including local television morning shows and radio spots.
Marketing Manager
In this role, I engaged and interacted with students, faculty, alumni, and donors to help promote the college’s strategic initiatives through multiple channels. I was also responsible for developing content for the college’s promotional material, including feature stories, press releases, and marketing pieces that are used for both traditional and online media outlets. I operated and oversaw the college’s social media networks through Hootsuite and Sprout Social, including scheduling posts, monitoring traffic, replying to inquiries, and promoting college initiatives. I was also tasked with the hiring and supervision of entry-level employees, such as public relations coordinators, and interns.
Social Media & Communication Coordinator (Freelance)
In this role, I developed a strategic plan to promote the company to its publics, using digital media and speaking engagements. I also completed an entire overhaul of the company’s website to better display its services and employees. For external reach, I worked with local media outlets to gain earned media for the company, including feature stories in local publications and interviews with television stations.
