Lead and managed the Developer Experience team within the Platform Infrastructure organization. Our job was to re-envision and build out the way product engineers interact with the vast array of components and systems that make up Platform Infrastructure. Previously these were operated through manual requests for help, often taking days or weeks to fulfill. To address the problem of toil my team developed a holistic strategy and vision to incrementally move toward a world of self service, automation, and GitOps-style declarative intent with unified access controls across the many systems that make up infrastructure at Carta. This involved the use of modern cloud standards and technologies like OAM (oam.dev) as our declarative specification fulfilled by Kubernetes Operators via continuous reconciliation. One layer up we built a heavily customized Backstage (backstage.io) installation that represented the unified Frontend of Platform Infrastructure. All along the way we gathered feedback and empathized with users taking on a product mindset as we incrementally designed and developed solutions.
