I led the Activation Data Onboarding engineering team at Neustar, and I had the opportunity to lead a wonderful team. We were responsible for providing data ingress across a variety of secure protocols and along with robust data retention processes. We developed and administrated strict data access policies that affected, and met the needs of, multiple teams across Neustar. Ensuring that stored data protection, data destruction, the actual onboarding of data, resulting output data, and distribution processes met the exacting security and audit requirements of SOC2, financial, medical, and insurance institutions; as well as CCPA and GDPR requirements.As we expanded the platform and service offerings, I was responsible for maintaining unity in new and existing architecture, design, and processes while maintaining operational continuity.

I was presented with a unique opportunity to step out of leadership in Localeze and be mentored by a Vice President of Architecture and Distinguished Engineer to stand up a new product and new processes. Previously most of my experience had been in real time query/response API’s. This system was designed to handle large amounts of data, billions of rows measured in terabytes of data a day, and leverage big data technologies. We succeeded. From the time client data hits Neustar servers all the way through to the data being presented to downstream services, everything is automated and mostly event driven. We were bound to a single terrestrial Hadoop instance, but everything else was designed to scale horizontally leveraging the auto-scaling elastic compute paradigm. This includes a full-featured set of RESTful APIs for interacting with both configuration information for how to process data and information about the exact work performed on the data. In addition to Data Onboarding services this set of APIs is integrated with Neustar’s PlatformOne and a set of enabler services that facilitate the execution of processes that are outside the scope of Data Onboarding but reliant on the output of Data Onboarding, After I advanced to leadership we put an administrative UI on top of the APIs that allow for a complete view of all data returned and fine grain editing of every property available, for use by Engineering, Product, and Business Operations teams.

I managed platform development, primarily OLTP and other query/response APIs, involving data acquisition, data processing, and data distribution systems. I worked closely with our Product Development team during the planning, requirements gathering, and feedback phases of development. I worked with our Support and Operations team to ensure their ability to support our systems and maintain the customer experience. I also work closely with our DBA team, reviewing database design and coordinating deployment, maintenance, and upgrades.
