Trey Walton is an Indigenous, queer, first-generation foster care alumnus, and a dedicated paralegal, advocate, and activist. He currently serves as a Legal Assistant at the Law Office of Gina Lynn, providing expert legal documentation in wills, trusts, estate planning, and probate law. Previously, he was a Civil Rights Paralegal at Cecilia Nuby & Associates LLC.Originally from Orrville, Ohio, Trey brings his Midwestern charm to Washington, D.C., with a deep understanding of how legislation impacts youth and under-resourced communities. He views legislation as a key element in shaping collective identity and is committed to advocating for democratic policies that benefit all.With over three years of experience in legal and policy roles, Trey has worked within the federal government to amplify community voices. His most recent role was as a Legislative Intern for Congresswoman Sykes at the U.S. House of Representatives. He has also supported Senator Sherrod Brown in advocating for union rights and affordable healthcare and interned at the U.S. Public Defender's Office in Cleveland, OH, focusing on their Habeas Corpus and Litigation Units.Trey has been actively involved in the Kent State University community, contributing to the May 4th Task Force and Undergraduate Student Government. His extensive involvement includes over 13 extracurricular activities and serving as a TRIO McNair Scholar researching Cancel Culture and Soft Power. He has also been the Student Chair for the College of Arts and Sciences Dean Search Task Force and the Libraries DEI Committee. Notably, Trey passed a resolution condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine, raised over $2,000 for the LGBTQ+ emergency fund, and organized a campus event with David Hogg on gun violence prevention.His achievements include being named a Kent State University Distinguished Student Leader, recipient of the Crawford Senior Honors Thesis Scholarship, and the Harry E. Jackson LGBT Scholarship. Trey’s commitment to cultural understanding is reflected in his study abroad experiences in the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador, and the United Kingdom.Trey earned his Bachelor of Political Science and Paralegal Studies, cum laude, and an Associate of Arts in Theatre Performance, cum laude, from Kent State University.
